Overview
When it comes to Cape Verdean music in the 21st century, she is the voice of the future. The internationally acclaimed singer Mayra Andrade mixes the groove of Cape Verde with soul, afrobeat, fado, chanson, jazz, flamenco ... She is a wanderer between worlds in the truest sense of the word: Born to Cape Verdean parents in Cuba, she later lived not only in Cape Verde, but also in Senegal, Angola, Germany, France and Portugal, among other places. She has absorbed musical influences from all these places, which are reflected in her songs. In 2005, the then twenty-year-old Mayra Andrade recorded a duet with Charles Aznavour, two years later she released her debut album Navega, for which she received the "BBC Radio 3 Award for World Music" in the "Newcomer" category. Several albums and numerous international concert tours followed. In her concert in Hanover, she presents her always surprising, soulful and captivating sound in a compellingly intimate dialog with guitarist Djodje Almeida.
