Die Walküren

The Valkyries are blessed with the clearest view of the world. They have to watch what is happening on this earth – and it’s a lot. The world tree Yggdrasil, the source of all life, has dried. Wotan, god without a plan, destroys and rages. People are no better, and just follow his example. But at least, there is Brünnhilde, the only one of the Valkyries who is able to leave the rock. She seems to be able to fight the looming demise. Obstinate, strong and wayward, she is looking for a new order of things.
Maren Bues will stage Caren Jeß’ attack on this German myth – a turning point, a new narrative, clever, sharp and often very funny.

Ikraus

Already in 2019, the Cretan choreographer Andonis Foniadakis enchanted the audience in Hanover with the athletic dance language of his ballet Kosmos: With great virtuosity, he explores the dancers’ movement spectrum, creating such a fascinating, electrifying atmosphere that the entire space seems to crackle with concentrated dance energy. Icarus, a character from Greek mythology, embodies the yearning of mankind to rise beyond their limitations. His story, where he is given wings and flies too close to the sun, only to fall and fail, has inspired the imagination of humanity since its beginnings. In dance, Foniadakis is driven by the same question as the eponymous character Icarus: How close can you get to the sun without burning?

The Greek Passion

Who am I? Who can I become? And what does it take to become a good person? The Greek Passion addresses the most important issues of our co-existence: humanity and altruism. It describes a society that needs to painstakingly assure itself of the practical obligations of Christianity … Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů wrote The Greek Passion against the backdrop of his own experience of migration and displacement. With its great variety of styles, ranging from Greek folk songs and orthodox liturgy via operatic singing to great, oratorio-like choir song, The Greek Passion is one of the most resplendent and powerful operas of the 20th century.
