Symphony No. 8 in C major Great Symphony D 944

Robert Schumann’s Violin Concerto is distinguished by its agitated emotions which give the music an incredible appeal. The composer was not allowed to experience the impressive impact of his work since it was first performed decades after his early death. This created a fateful link between himself and his paragon Franz Schubert: Schumann himself initiated the first performance of Schubert’s so-called “Great” Symphony in C major – unfortunately long after the composer’s death. Its profundity and the equally moving and brilliant sounds caused Schubert’s symphony to become an innovative inspiration for Romantic composers like Robert Schumann.
